Tournament Course week of 10-19 to 10-23

This week we focused on bunker edging in addition to our weekly flymo. The size and number of bunkers makes for a slow process but the guys were able to complete all 18.  We also began slowly lowering our cutting heights in preperation for our annual overseed beginning Nov 1st.  We are lowering heights in small increments for two reasons. First, it will lessen the “scalping” effect so the grass isn’t going from green to brown overnight. Secondly, we want the Bermuda to be as healthy as possible as it goes into dormancy to increase our chances of success during our spring transition.

Next week we will be applying Turflon to the entire course, except for the greens. The Turflon further aids in the suppression of the Bermuda as well as thinning the turf with the goal of better seed to soil contact when we put out the perennial ryegrass.  The Turflon acts very quickly, so the course will be brown and dormant by this time next week.
